A native of Florida, J. G. Braddock Sr., resided in Charleston, SC with his wife Valerie before his passing in 2017. Between them they had seven children and 18 grand children. He attended North Greenville College on a football scholarship. Before retirement he worked 35 years as a mainframe computer technician and supervisor. In 1996 he published a 300 page maritime history, Wooden Ships - Iron Men, which is now in its third printing. As a result of the book, he participated in two lectures internationally famous author Arthur Hailey gave on one of the book’s heroes.
