Aaron James Higginbotham, CSA 1832-1910

Aaron James Higginbotham was born in Alachua Co FL and died in Levy Co FL. Aaron married first Martha Beck Hudson. On July 8 1861 Aaron enlisted at Fernandina Jacksonville) in FL 2nd Inf. Co. K and later transferred to Co. G because of wounds. He was discharged September 10, 1862. He's on record as being 6 ft, dark skin & hair, grey eyes, occupation: farmer. He did say he had been in 3 major battles, one of which was Bull Run. This is thought to be the 2nd Manasses and occurred in August of 1862. He enlisted December 24, 1862 "when he got to feeling better." Aaron served in the Fla 9th Infantry Co A during the Civil War and lost his right arm at the elbow, at Bay Port, Febrary 1863. This was as he stated "from a cannon ball bursting beside him." On April 26, 1863 he was discharged by surgeon's certificate at Bayport. Despite this, he was listed as absent on all rolls and listed as AWOL since October 5, 1864. He was shot in the right leg twice, this leg was 6 inches shorter and he was nearly blind. In 1870 he married Martha E. McEwen in Alachua Co FL. Aaron and Martha only had 1 child and her name was Georganna Lenora Higginbotham. Martha died in 1906. On July 7/18/1908 he married Roxie Ann Lee. Aaron first applied for a pension (because of his disability) July 6, 1885 and was approved July 22, 1885.
