JOHNSON CREEK - PATRICK CO., VA

Jared Branson Sr. is found in deed records on Johnson Creek in Patrick Co., Virginia.  He was listed with Thomas Dillard, Thomas Sumner, James and Mary Doke (Doak), John Yeates (Yates) alias Smith, Eliphaz Shelton and others.  Below are some comments about these people.

Thomas Dillard
Thomas Dillard and Ruth Goad were the parents of Susan/Sarah Dillard who married Jared's eldest son, John Jefferson Branson on Dec. 15, 1803 in Patrick, VA.  Thomas was the son of James Dillard and Mary Ann Hunt.  James was born in James City County, VA Oct. 15, 1727.  Mary Ann was born Apr 28, 1734 in Essex, VA.  They both died in Amherst, VA.  Thomas Dillard was born c1755 in Pittsylvania (then Halifax), VA.  Ruth Goad, daughter of Abraham Goad Jr., was born c1740 also in Pittsylvania, VA.

The Dillard family was quite large and some of them lived in Pittsylvania VA, Caroline VA and elsewhere.

Susan/Sarah Dillard's sister, Ruth Dillard, married William McMillan, son of Abram or Abraham McMillan of Halifax, VA.  William's brother, Stephen, married Martha Blansett (or Blanchet) in 1810 in Patrick, VA.  She was possibly the daughter of Peter Blansett who was from Amelia, VA and was in Henry, VA in 1777.  Martha's probable brother, Archibald, was married Oct. 30, 1799 in Patrick, VA and Thomas Branson and William Yeatts were sureties.  A John Yeates was listed with Jared Branson at Johnson Creek, Patrick, VA.  This Thomas Branson was probably the son of Jared Branson Sr. who would have been 21 years of age at that time.
